1. Auckland has some epic surf breaks with the beaches of Piha, Muriwai and Bethells Beach all being considered depending on the environmental conditions. Piha is considered as the birthplace of NZ surfing and has two bays separated by the iconic Lion Rock.
2. Hot Water Beach in Coromandel is a great place to learn to surf. They also teach surf life saving, first aid and surf coaching qualifications and give a three hour surf lesson on surf technique, surf safety and surf awareness. The wave is a gentle rolling wave and a great place to learn!
3. Raglan's world famous breaks are found at 3 points: Manu Bay, Whale Bay and The Indicators. This is the hottest surfing mecca in NZ, if not in this part of the planet. Manu Bay, also known as The Point, as it is said to have the longest left hand ride in the world.
4. The outer reefs of Kaikoura will guarantee a close encounter of the aquatic kind with inquisitive seals and dolphin fins piercing the horizon. “Meatworks” is the most famous beach in Kaikoura which has consistent waves whilst 16km north there is a right-hand point break that you’ll be reluctant to leave with a wave that peels along an extensive boulder reef.
5. Sumner beach is a sleepy seaside surfing suburb located 20 minutes out of Christchurch. Most lessons occur at Scarborough Beach, Sumner’s main beach, where the waves consist of gentle rolling surf ideally suited to beginners and malibu surfing. To up the ante’, Taylor’s Mistake is situated in the next bay and offers CHCH’s most knarliest wave ideally suited to the more experienced surfer.
Due to the seasonality of this activity in some of the locations above, these package is only available October - May.
