Black Water Rafting - Waitomo

The Lowdown

Waitomo is world famous for the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. New Zealanders being New Zealanders, we could not just observe this spectacular natural phenomenon onboard a simple observation deck, so enter Black Water Rafting!

Also know as cave tubing, this is an experience that is unique to New Zealand. It involves the use of an inflated rubber inner tube as a flotation device to take you down subterranean rivers. This ripper of a trip combines the best elements of black water rafting with walking, swimming and climbing through dry sections of the spectacular Ruakuri Cave.

You will see awesome cave formations, some of the best stalactites and rock sculpture available, as well as the famous New Zealand glowworm. This is one hell of a unique experience and is suitable for all ages and activity levels.

Notes

Fitness level: moderate, involves one small waterfall jump and a short section of pitch black darkness!

Included: Wetsuits, footwear and equipment. Hot soup and bagel afterwards! Entrance to Waitomo Museum of Caves
